Our director, JANA DAVIS TOLLEFSON is an Oklahoma Certified music teacher. She has taught both in public and private schools and has maintained a private piano/voice studio in Tulsa for over 20 years. Having conducted both children and adult choirs, she has sadly seen the decline in music ministry in many churches—particularly in children's music. Her desire in these Christ-centered choirs is to develop young musicians for Christ who will walk in confidence as they give glory and honor to Him in their music.
KAREN LOUISE DUVAL, Prep I and II director, served as a military bandsman in the Maine Army National Guard and has taught K-8 music at a private Christian School in New Hampshire. She has also served as a children's ministry director, camp director and music ministry leader for churches in New England. She is a recent ORU graduate and is currently seeking her Master's Degree. She is Kodaly certified. She and her husband homeschool their three children. She enjoys helping children develop their God-given talents and encouraging them to use them for His glory.
Mrs. Collingsworth has homeschooled her 16 and 8 year old sons and 13 year old daughter for 7 years, and has been married to her husband, Scott, for 21 years. They have been involved with THC the past two years and Mrs. Collingsworth serves on our THC Board of Directors. When asked about her music experience, she states "I have been involved in music since before I can remember. I'm told my grandmother had me singing solos in her church at 2 yrs-old. She was the music director and I know no one told her 'no', so I believe I probably did get up there whenever she said!" Mrs. Collingsworth has been in band, has sung in many church and college choirs, directed children and youth choirs at church, and was a vocal music major for a while. Her B.S. is in Home Economics Education and her M.S. is in School Counseling. She has been in church praise bands and is part of The Tulsa Carolers each year. When asked about what she envisions for THC Ensemble as she begins her first year as Ensemble director, she states: "What I envision for our THC Ensemble is just seeing how far we can go! Seeing what level we can push ourselves to and the fun and excitement that accompanies that! I plan to offer a good variety of tunes, and I hope to find quite a few opportunities for us to sing this year. I pray that it is just a lot of fun for the students!"
